About this deal

I am so looking forward to reading this book with my reception class at the end of the day and I look forward to hearing their thoughts. Tonight we reread it (my 9 year old and I) as we are about to spend 5 days in London seeing as many of the sights in the book as possible! As a storyteller he has devised and performed a series of sell-out concerts for children with the de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra, and has participated in prom performances at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. When Katie and her brother Jack visit London with Grandma, they don't think there's much to see and do. This picture book mingles fantasy with information most successfully… a lively introduction to some of the main London sights within the context of an appealing story…The text keeps up the pace of the story and includes a lot of convincing dialogue.

When Katie and Jack are woken up late on Christmas Eve by a loud sneeze, little do they realise that they are about to embark on the most amazing evening! By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. But can they help Father Christmas to deliver all his presents and be back in time for Christmas morning? The book takes you on a journey from the moment Katie and Jack are woken on Christmas Eve by sneezing Father Christmas. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc.For art you could use this book to get the children to make a poster all about the sights of London - including pictures and words. Biography: James Mayhew studied at Maidstone College of Art and his first children's book, Katie's Picture Show was published in 1989. There isn't anything about the new buildings and developments for the Olympics, but as 2012 is the Queen's Jubilee it works well for any little ones who are interested in the Queen and where she lives.

At Trafalgar Square, they meet a talking stone lion, and he takes them on a wonderful tour of the city taking in such sights as The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye! He has made regular appearances at the National Galleries in Edinburgh and London and visits many schools, and arts and literary festivals. You might like to look at Katie and the Waterlily Pond by James Mayhew and If you'd like to extend Katie's trip to London to Christmas, we can recommend Katie's London Christmas. We also use them to help detect unauthorized access or activity that violate our terms of service, as well as to analyze site traffic and performance for our own site improvement efforts. James Mayhew knows just how to capture the imagination and he depicts all the famous sights, beautifully drawn. Not only is it informative about the features of the incredible city, but the illustrations allow the reader to create vivid images in their head. This would be a lovely way to introduce any child to London, perhaps as a way to calm nerves before a first trip or as a way to reminisce after visiting. Not everyone will be acquainted with London and its famous sighs, children new to London will enjoy it, children who have visited these sights will enjoy revisiting them through this story, and a class teacher could use it as an introduction to a visit into central London.

I know most of the landmarks Katie visits, and the older granddaughter brought it home from her own visit. To link this book to drama you could split the class into small groups and they could do freeze frames of the main events of the fire.

This review is on behalf of my twin almost-three-year-old associates, whose cousin, now 12 , passed on four books that she thinks she has grown out of. Registered office address: Unit 34 Vulcan House Business Centre, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EF.
